Preparing to go back to school.....

July 19, 2013

Back to school ads are out already.  I love teaching, but July is just a tad bit early to have those out in my book.  There are some things you can be doing to begin to get your child ready to get back in the school routine.

1. Start moving wake up  time and bedtime up by five minutes a day,   This will make it much easier on the first day of school.

2.  Stop by Pershing.  They are still cleaning, so you probably won't be able to get inside, but you can walk around the building on the outside and play on the playgrounds.  This will help refresh your child's memories of school, and for new students, become acquainted with the grounds.

3.  Read at least one story a day.  Visit Decatur Public Library and stay for Storytime.  This will help your child adjust to sitting in a group again (or for the first time).

Also, I will be sending out postcards to set up days and times for orientation.  Returning students will have group orientation, new students to the building will have individual orientations.

First day of students will be August 14.  Orientation will take place the week of August 5-9.
